The S3 8Y intake is a complete redesign of the stock intake manifold right through to the turbo inlet. Taking inspiration from our RS3 intake, we have made the most of the available space to create an intake that is suitable for all power levels, from stock to high performance setups with hybrid or full frame turbos. This intake system is engineered to provide the highest possible flow rate whilst achieving the lowest intake temperatures. Every component has been designed to provide the turbo with a smooth and free flow path. The restrictive stock 73mm diameter intake pipe is replaced with a larger diameter 94mm intake pipe. The filter itself has an outside diameter of 192mm or 7.5? with a filter area of over 110,000mm^2. The patented venturi housing is designed to provide the greatest possible internal volume for the available space in the Golf engine bay and ensures laminar flow to the turbo pipe. Finally, the duct seals the filter opening on the front screen but is not restricted solely by the stock intake. We have raised the front of the duct to now create an additional opening behind the bonnet, which corresponds to an additional 7? diameter hole for the intake to draw from. The resulting system can flow significantly out of the stock airbox whilst keeping intake temperatures to a minimum with the sealed design.
dyno tests
Our MK8 Golf intake has been independently tested by a reputable tuner in the UK, Regal Autosport. Tested on a MK8 Golf R in stock condition and with a tuning box. Testing was carried out on the same day, testing the stock airbox first and then the Eventuri. No other changes were made to the car. The first graph shows the results using a stock map. As you can see, there is a measurable gain across the rev range up to 12bhp. This gain is noticeable even in a stock car on the road with better throttle response and quicker acceleration. The second graph shows the results when using a tuning box which increases the flow requirement of the intake system. The tuning box was used on both the stock airbox and the Eventuri intake with no changes made between tests. With a higher flow requirement, the stock airbox places a greater restriction on the turbo, which is evident by the significant gain achieved with the Eventuri fitted. We now have a power increase of up to 20 hp and 30 Nm across the entire rev range, which is even more noticeable on the road. We expect the gains to be even greater with higher tuning levels.
The improvements are due to a combination of reasons:
1) The closed system keeps the IAT values low - the engine bay of the Golf can heat up very quickly, so an open cone filter will cause the IAT values to rise and therefore a loss of power.
2) The venturi housing provides a smooth transition from the filter to the intake pipes, both of which are designed to have an internal diameter of 94mm. This contributes to more efficient operation of the turbo.
3) The entire system is made of pure pre-impregnated carbon fiber, which provides excellent heat insulation and has smooth internal surfaces, unlike fiberglass which has sharp resin lines.
